Overview
Flowtext is an SMS platform for teams that send at scale: 10DLC-registered numbers, carrier delivery tracking, and AI-assisted replies. The Close integration connects a Flowtext workspace to a Close organization with OAuth, so you can:
- Text leads straight from a Close Smart View, using your registered Flowtext numbers.
- Log every outbound text and every inbound reply as an SMS activity on the matching Close lead.
- Get notified in Close when a lead replies.
- Mark opted-out leads in Close automatically when they reply STOP, so nobody on your team texts them again.
- See each lead's Flowtext status and reply sentiment in Close custom fields.
Requirements
- A Flowtext account with at least one phone number attached to an approved 10DLC campaign.
- A Close account. The person who connects needs permission to authorize apps for your Close organization.
- Leads in Close with a mobile phone number on at least one contact.
Connect Close
- Open the integration in Flowtext. Sign in at flowtext.ai, go to Settings → Integrations, and choose Close.
- Click Connect with Close. You are sent to Close to sign in and review the access Flowtext is asking for.
- Authorize. Approve the request in Close. You return to Flowtext and the integration shows as connected, with the name of your Close organization.
- Pick your defaults. Choose the Flowtext number (or number pool) used for texts started from Close, and whether replies should create a Close inbox notification.
That's it. New texts and replies start appearing on Close lead timelines immediately. Past Flowtext history is not copied into Close.
What syncs
| Event in Flowtext | What happens in Close |
|---|---|
| A text is sent to a lead | An outbound SMS activity is added to the lead, with the message text, the sending number, and the time. |
| A lead replies | An inbound SMS activity is added to the lead, and (if enabled) the lead owner gets a Close inbox notification. |
| A lead replies STOP | The lead is marked opted out for SMS in Close (see Consent and opt-outs). |
| A conversation's status or sentiment changes | The Flowtext Status and Flowtext Sentiment custom fields on the lead are updated. |
How leads are matched
Flowtext matches a phone number to a Close contact by its number in E.164 form (for example +15165550123). If a number belongs to more than one lead, the activity is logged on the most recently updated lead. If no lead matches, nothing is written to Close.
Custom fields
On first connect, Flowtext creates two lead custom fields in your Close organization, Flowtext Status and Flowtext Sentiment, if they do not already exist. You can filter Smart Views on them like any other field.
Campaigns from Smart Views
- In Flowtext, create a campaign and choose Close Smart View as the audience.
- Pick the Smart View to send to. Optionally pick a second Smart View to exclude (for example, current customers).
- Write your message, preview it with merge fields from Close (such as
{{first_name}}), and schedule or send.
The audience is read from Close when the campaign starts, so leads added to the Smart View before then are included. Leads that are opted out in Close are always skipped.
Consent and opt-outs
- STOP is honored everywhere. When a lead replies STOP (or another standard opt-out keyword), Flowtext stops texting that number and marks the lead opted out for SMS in Close.
- Close consent is respected. If your Close organization has an SMS consent field and a lead's value is "No", Flowtext will not text that lead.
- Every message is sent through your registered 10DLC numbers, with carrier-required brand identification and opt-out handling. You remain responsible for having consent to text the people in your Close account. See the Flowtext Terms.
Permissions and data
Close grants OAuth apps access to the organization of the user who authorizes them. Flowtext uses that access only to:
- Read leads, contacts, phone numbers, Smart Views, and custom field definitions, to build audiences and match replies.
- Write SMS activities, inbox notifications, the two Flowtext custom field values, and SMS opt-out status on leads.
Flowtext does not delete or merge leads, change lead owners, or edit any other fields. Close OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest and used only by the integration. How we handle data is described in the Flowtext Privacy Policy.
Disconnect
You can disconnect from either side:
- In Flowtext: Settings → Integrations → Close → Disconnect.
- In Close: Settings → Connected Apps, then revoke Flowtext.
Disconnecting stops all syncing straight away and deletes the stored Close tokens from Flowtext. Activities and field values already written to Close stay on your leads. Your Flowtext numbers, campaigns, and message history are not affected.
FAQ
Does it cost extra?
No. The integration is included with Flowtext. Messages are billed at your normal Flowtext rates.
Can each rep send from their own number?
Yes. Assign a Flowtext number to each team member in Flowtext. Texts started by a rep go out from their number, and replies are logged on the lead and routed to them.
Will it work alongside Close's built-in calling and SMS?
Yes. Flowtext activities appear on the same timeline as Close's own SMS activities. Use whichever fits each workflow.
Why didn't a reply show up in Close?
Usually the replying number doesn't match a contact's phone number in Close exactly. Check that the contact's number includes the country code. If it does and the reply is still missing, contact support.
